Geography & Weather in the Maldives

The Maldives, an equatorial island nation in the Indian Ocean, has only 298 square kilometers of dry land out of a total area of 90,000 square kilometers. Renowned for its underwater beauty, the Maldives hosts about five percent of the world’s reefs, including both soft and hard corals, displaying vibrant colors. It is home to a thousand species of fish, as well as large pelagic species like manta rays and whale sharks, attracted by nutrient-rich ocean currents. The climate is consistently warm, with temperatures ranging from 26 to 32 degrees Celsius throughout the year, accompanied by clear, warm seas and occasional gentle monsoon showers from May to October.
